NBA President Strikes Back, Urges The EFCC To Apologise To All Lawyers And Nigerians

Newly-elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud has taken exception to comments credited to the EFCC accusing him of trying to protect people being prosecuted for corruption cases.

The NBA chairman speaking on popular morning show, sunrise daily on channels TV said, 'after 12 years of its establishment, everyone has the right to scrutinise the activities of the EFCC'. He further said Nigerians have the right to debate on the structures of any public institutions and when they do, it does not mean they are supporting criminality.

Mr. Mahmoud urge the EFCC to apologise to all lawyers and Nigerians as such words should not be coming from a public institution.

The EFCC had over the weekend blasted the NBA chairman for suggesting that the prosecuting powers of the Commission be limited. The EFCC In a strongly worded statement by its Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, described the suggestion which Mahmoud made at his inauguration on Friday, as self-serving and meant to protect a cabal of untouchables who can only be investigated but never prosecuted for corruption.
