Top Nigerian athletes are yet to report to the camp of Athletics Federation of Nigeria running at the Port Harcourt High Performance Centre.

Some of the athletes who bared their minds on the exercise called by the AFN to boost preparations for the African Championships in South Africa and the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil revealed their lack of motivation to join the camp.

“Right now I am not in best mood to report to camp. I would rather face my farm work, this is because some of the allowances owed us from the All Africa Games have not been paid,” said one of the senior athletes.

Also Tega Odele an up and coming sprinter, stated that he is quite comfortable training with his coaches at the University of Benin, adding that reporting to Port Harcourt was out of the question.  Speaking on the development coordinator of the camp, Seigha Porbeni stated that some of the athletes have not reported because of they haven’t been released by their respective authorities.  “We don’t have most of the top athletes here yet. It is only Divine Oduduru and 18 other juniors we are working with.

“Some of them complained that they their schools and work places have not been notified by the AFN secretariat, and so they cannot report to camp. But we are working with what we have and expecting that things will go in full swing for our preparations towards the Africa Championships and the Olympics next year,” said Mr. Porbeni.
