FG, JOSEPH YOBO TO TRAIN NIGER DELTA YOUTHS IN SOCCER

The Federal Government has agreed to partner with the Soccer Maestro and former Captain of the Nigerian National Senior Football Team, Joseph Yobo, using his Football Academy, for the training of Niger Delta youths as professional footballers.


The federal government made public its decision to boost the regions development through sporting activities through the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, when he received Yobo in his office. He said the government was determined adopt any measure aimed to empower the youths in order to sustain the relative peace in the region.

The minister noted that, “We can partner with your Football Academy to develop talents in the Niger Delta Region.” The Football Academy is located in Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Usani, who commended the former professional football player for projecting the image of Nigeria positively through sports, added that his offer to partner with the Ministry in the training of Niger Delta youths to become professional footballers was evidence of the patriotism of the star footballer.

“Whatever you offered to do, so long as it is within our need and legitimate responsibilities, we will accept,” the Minister said adding that the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs was prepared to benefit from his contribution to develop the Region.

Earlier in his remarks, the Nigerian ex-international recalled his exploits as a footballer and narrated how he rose through the ranks to become the captain of the national team. He reiterated his desire to contribute his quota in making the Ministry successful in the discharge of its responsibilities in the Niger Delta Region.
